OUR LIBRARY

Welcome to our Library Learning Commons

Welcome to École John Henderson Middle School's Library Learning Commons! We strive to provide students with a welcoming, inclusive and vibrant learning space to engage in learning, reading for pleasure, collaborative work, research, and academic study. Our goal is to provide access to a wide variety of current and appropriate resources, technology and opportunities, that promotes a love of learning and reading among our students.

Our program includes providing students with teaching on information literacy, digital literacy and digital citizenship, media literacy, and critical literacy in order to foster the skills needed to be successful now and in the future. We believe that every student should have the skills necessary to navigate in today's information-rich society. Determining information needs, recognizing and selecting appropriate print or online resources, evaluating sources, recognizing false or misleading information and managing information are fundamental skills needed for successful academic research and life-long learning.

Our Library Learning Commons is a busy place where we aim to empower our students to become critical thinkers, effective researchers, and responsible digital citizens. Students and staff are encouraged to follow their curiosities, be creative, collaborate and think critically to find, discuss and connect with new information.

Students visit the library on a regular basis to sign out books, read and conduct research. Students can also work or read in the library during interactive start and during the second half of lunch.
