CONCERN PROTOCOL: WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS

We want to hear from you!
The safety of students and staff is our top priority. Teaching and learning only occurs when everyone feels safe, secure, and welcome. We strive to always make sure our schools support safety and respect everyone’s well-being.
If you witness a possible or active serious threat to student safety such as a suspicious and/or armed person, please call 9-1-1 before calling anyone else.
We recognize there are times when parents may have concerns related to classroom activities, student performance, or safety. When this happens, we want to hear from parents so that we can have a meaningful conversation about your concerns. The first step is to approach the classroom teacher directly—they know your child and the immediate environment, so they’re best positioned to assist. Open communication between home and school is important — teachers cannot respond to concerns if they don’t know about them.
After speaking with the classroom teacher, if you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the school’s principal. They will work with you and the teacher to identify solutions. However, if you continue to have questions or concerns, then parents are encouraged to reach out to the RETSD Administration Office at 204.667.7130 or by email at info@retsd.mb.ca. A member of the senior administration team will review your concern and provide support.
Parents may appeal decisions made by senior administration through the Board of Trustees who can best be contacted through RETSD’s secretary-treasurer who will bring forward the concern at a board meeting. Parents are invited to attend these meetings—for information, please consult Policy BEDH — Public Participation at Board Meetings.
Our concern protocol is tied to Policy KE-R — Concerns and Complaints Procedures.
