Remembering The Honourable Nello Altomare

River East Transcona School Division is saddened to hear of the passing of Hon. Nello Altomare, Minister of Education, MLA—Transcona.

Minister Altomare dedicated his life to education from humble beginnings as a teacher, to being appointed vice-principal, principal, and then becoming Manitoba’s Minister of Education. Several schools and students in the former Transcona-Springfield School Division, and now RETSD, would have benefited from what he shared in the hallways and classrooms.

During his career, he impacted students from every corner of RETSD, including Bird’s Hill School, Polson School, Valley Gardens Middle School, John W. Gunn Middle School, Harold Hatcher School, and Arthur Day Middle School. 

A special thank you to Minister Altomare for the dedication he showed every day to improving the lives of students in our province, both within our school division and most recently in the Manitoba Legislature.

We extend our sincere condolences to Minister Altomare’s family during this difficult time.
