Reivers Cap Perfect Season by Winning Provincial Crown

The Kildonan-East Collegiate Reivers ended their perfect season of 10–0 with an impressive 30–0 victory over Dryden High School at IG Field on Nov. 9, capturing the Winnipeg High School Football League Division 3 provincial crown.

This Division 3 championship marks the first time the Reivers have won their division and the Bramwell Conference in the team’s history. They had to beat 11 other teams to earn the title.

Teacher Jason Hawkins is in his 10th year as head coach for the team. He helped establish the program in 2006 and has seen the team compete in six championship games in its 15 years on the gridiron.

While they didn’t play in 2020 or 2021 due to the pandemic, they dedicated themselves to using that time to build their team and develop new players. The work continued in the summer, with the team spending every Thursday morning in July and August training for speed on the field at KEC.

This year, the team was led by Grade 12 students Gavin Buckmaster, Toby Zimmerman, Tyson Egan, and Riley Howard.

“I’m so proud of these players!” says Hawkins. “In September 2021, they committed to building for the future and worked hard each day to turn our vision into a reality. Success is one thing, but impact is another. I truly believe these players will have a positive impact for years to come, both on and off the field.”
