Parent Advisory Council

The Sun Valley School parent advisory council is a group of parents who work together with the school staff to enhance and promote the exceptional learning environment at Sun Valley School. The council is comprised of a chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, committee co-ordinators. The executive is elected in October of the new school year.

Membership is open to all community members and parents/guardians of children enrolled at Sun Valley School. The council's activities are always changing. As a result, they are receptive to the creative ideas of new members.

Mission Statement

To ensure a safe, positive learning environment filled with educational opportunities that enhance the growth and development of all students at École Sun Valley School through the ongoing support of a strong partnership between school, staff, parents, and the community.

Meetings

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:45 p.m. in the school library. Meeting dates are also posted in the school newsletter.

Fundraising

Fundraising to support school activities and purchase equipment occurs through a variety of events:

• Monthly Hot Lunches
• Magazine sales
• Silent Auction
• Coupon sales
• Spell-a-thon & Run/Walk-a-thon

Events

• Fun fair
• Parent information/education evenings
• Staff appreciation week
• Family Fun nights

School Plan

The school plan is a document that outlines the goals and directions of our school on a yearly basis. The council is pleased to have an opportunity to review the plan with the school's administration.

Joan McCreath and Donna Cochrane Awards

The council established the above awards in honour of two past principals of Sun Valley School. The Joan McCreath award is presented to the most improved Grade 5 language arts student and the Donna Cochrane award is presented to a Grade 5 student for most outstanding writing. They are awarded at ceremonies held in June of each year.
