Kodiak Football Families

Good day Kodiak Football Families,

Another season of high school football action is fast approaching. It always amazes me how quickly they arrive and in particular, how fast the season goes by. You'll see.

We have two teams this year! A full Varsity squad and a 9-aside Junior Varsity Team. Instead of the usual 12 aside football, the WHSFL offers the smaller programs a competitive option for the younger players. We had enough interest this spring to warrant this two team format. We are undermanned in the coaching department, however. If you have played football or have coaching experience in other sports...in addition, if you can somehow arrange your work schedule to fit us in from 3:30pm and 5:30pm through the week and you have the patience to deal with a few dozen teenage boys please, please consider joining our coaching staff. Send me an email if you are so inclined.

Varsity Football Camp Schedule:

Monday, August 19th    6pm-8pm  (full equipment)
Tuesday, August 20th    6pm-8pm (full equiipment)
Wedmesday, August 21st  6-8pm (full equipment)
Thursday, August 22nd    6-8pm (full equipment)
Friday, August 23rd      6-7:30pm (hats and shoulderpads)

Monday, August 26th     6-8pm (full equipment)
Tuesday, August 27th   6-8pm (full equipment)
Wednesday, Aug 28th     6-8pm (hats and shoulders)
Thursday, Aug 29th  Exhibition Game versus Garden City Collegiate 4:30-6pm

It is imperative that our attendance is perfect. We have three phases of football to instal in 8 practices. Learning the game is challenge enough when everyone is present never mind having to constantly re-teach to the players who miss. We appreciate your effort to get your kid to practice. They can also learn with their eyes should they be injured or sick (if they stay home from school because they are sick or injured, they should not come to practice).

We have our most experienced team since before Covid hit. We want to be the best we can be.

Junior Varsity Camp Schedule:

Through some shortsightedness and lack of funds we are short on kit for 85 football players. Thus, we will be practicing without equipment until we have enough for everyone. With the JVs we never really know how many are serious about playing this fall until they show up. No letters of intent have been signed. Traditionally there are several new joiners once September rolls along. Should we have enough players for a 9-aside squad before September begins, we will not accept any new joiners. Hopefully our JV players will show up August 19th. Tell your friends.

Monday, August 19th  6pm-8pm  JV check in. Varsity practice only. Please come on the field and watch!
Tuesday, August 20th    5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)
Wedmesday, August 21st  5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)
Thursday, August 22nd    5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)
Friday, August 23rd      5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)

Monday, August 26th     5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)
Tuesday, August 27th    5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)
Wednesday, Aug 28th     5pm-6pm (no equipment except cleats and sweats/shorts)
Thursday, Aug 29th  Varsity Exhibition Game versus Garden City Collegiate 4:30-6pm

Football is a very intricate sport that takes years to learn. We can teach a great many things without equipment on. Please do not miss practice because we are not yet fully equipped. This will be a great time to bond as a team. Once again perfect attendance is expected. Life gets in the way, we understand but Kodiak Football is a priority in all of our coaches lives. We hope that our Kodiak families can also prioritize this incredible, challenging, intricate, team sport.

Practice times will be 3:30-5:30pm when SCHOOL begins.

Football is a costly game. We will be charging $400 for Varsity and $350 for Junior Varsity. Football Manitoba holds a raffle each fall. We hope that our Kodiak Families can sell some tickets on our behalf but we do not otherwise fund raise. Payments can be made in any number of ways including through organizations like KidSport who will pay on your behalf should you qualify. We are not asking for the money now but please make arrangements before game 2 of the regular season (September 13th). We do have immediate costs however. If you are certain your child is playing football for us and are able to contribute to the team fund, please do not hesitate. Thank you very much.

Attached are the season schedules. Mark them on your calendar! Please do not hesitate to contact both Sam Andrade and myself. We love this game and love coaching and teaching and try to stay positive as much as possible. Go all in on Kodiaks Football! Join in on the camaraderie, all in on the hype, buy in to the profound change football can offer a young person today. That is 'Serious Fun'.

See you on the field,

Coach Mead and Coach Andrade
