Pathways to Success: RETSD Graduate Pursues a Career in Carpentry
Hyacinth is a creative, compassionate, and determined young man who attended Bernie Wolfe School before graduating from Transcona Collegiate in 2026. Throughout his school years, he was actively involved in sports, participated in the Junior Jets program, and valued the time he spent with family and friends. Originally from Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in Pukatawagan, Hyacinth and his family have since made Transcona their home.
From a young age, Hyacinth demonstrated a caring nature and a genuine desire to help others. He also developed a strong interest in carpentry, which grew into a passion as he gained hands-on experience working part-time on a framing crew. Through this experience, he discovered the career path he wanted to pursue. Hyacinth's goal is to use his skills to help people in need and improve homes throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba because he believes everyone deserves a safe and comfortable place to live.
Throughout his educational journey in RETSD, Hyacinth benefited from the support, guidance, and encouragement of many dedicated educators and mentors. While he faced challenges along the way, his perseverance, resilience, and determination enabled him to overcome barriers and achieve success. Lisa Aymont-Hunter and Yvette Doell, along with numerous classroom teachers, student services staff, and administrators, played an important role in supporting his growth and celebrating his accomplishments.
Following graduation, Hyacinth took an important step toward achieving his career goals. With the support of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation and First Peoples Development Inc., he enrolled in the Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship Program for First Nations Peoples through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Training Centre.
In September 2026, Hyacinth successfully completed the 20-week program with distinction and received the Outstanding Attendance Award. During the program, he earned several industry-recognized certifications, including Heavy Equipment Operation, First Aid, and Workplace Safety Training. He also accumulated 900 apprenticeship hours toward Level 1 Carpentry and successfully completed his Level 1 technical training.
We are incredibly proud of all that Hyacinth has accomplished. His determination, strong work ethic, and positive attitude have created a solid foundation for future success. As he continues working toward becoming a Red Seal carpenter, we look forward to seeing the meaningful impact he will make in his community and beyond. His journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and the unwavering belief that with dedication, goals can become reality.
