Celebrating Safety in Action: Maple Leaf School Patrol Program Recognized with City-Wide Award
At Maple Leaf School, student safety begins long before the first bell rings. Each day, a dedicated team of student patrols helps fellow students to cross streets, navigate busy drop-off areas, and arrive at school safely—efforts that earned the school’s patrol program top honours this year.
Every year, the School Engagement Section of the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) judges the performance of patrols in Winnipeg on the basis of ability, professionalism, and technique, selecting the top four school patrol programs, along with most improved program. Maple Leaf ranked third place out of 250+ schools in Winnipeg.
“These accomplishments reflect not only skill and teamwork, but also a deep dedication to protecting and supporting our community,” said Principal Jamie Evans. “Our team of 46 street patrol members and two supervisors demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and resilience throughout the season.”
The WPS also selects the top three schools within each school division. In RETSD:
- 1st: Maple Leaf School
- 2nd: Betrun E. Glavin
- 3rd: Emerson School
Congratulations to all the patrols who were recognized this year, but also to every patrol in the division. Your leadership, commitment, and daily efforts are noticed by school staff and the community. By helping other students cross safely and modelling responsibility every day, you play an important part in creating safe and caring school communities.
