RETSD Students & Staff Garner Awards
Congratulations to the RETSD students and staff who were honoured by the Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children on February 23 at their annual awards ceremony.
The event always gets an impressive turnout as students from across the city and throughout the province attend to be recognized in a variety of areas, including academics, athletics, community service, employment, independent living skill, school and community activities, self-advocacy, and transition. School division staff are also recognized for going above and beyond to help students meet their personal goals.
This year, several RETSD students were presented with Yes I Can! Awards. Ava Narciso, from École Springfield Heights School, received an award in the category of academics. Damian Funk, from River East Collegiate, received an award in the category of school and community activities. Phillip Gauthier, also from River East, received an award in the category of athletics. And Danielle Briden and Hailey Lee, from Kildonan-East Collegiate, both received awards in the category of transition.
As well, certificates of recognition were presented to Candice Sutherland and Sean Oleksewycz, educational assistants at River East Collegiate, Mary LaPage Leclerc, an RETSD student services consultant, and Miranda Pachal, a Project Life partner who is the manager of learning operations at CN Transportation Services. As well, Tannar Paszkowski, from River East Collegiate, was nominated for Educational Assistant of the Year!
We are very proud of the accomplishments of these award recipients and hope they enjoy this well-deserved recognition.
