Music students from across RETSD put their talents on display between February 26 and March 19 when the Winnipeg Music Festival took place, and two of our schools emerged with awards.
Angus McKay School's Grade 4/5 choir received the Anne Tate Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding performance by a school chorus, grades 4 to 6. And Sun Valley School's Grade 2 choir received the Sir Hugh Roberton Trophy for the most outstanding performance by a school chorus, kindergarten to Grade 6.
Congratulations to these students on their award-winning performances, and many thanks to all the students and dedicated staff who took part in the festival.
Historical trivia about the festival: The last night of the very first Winnipeg Music Festival was May 15, 1919, during the Winnipeg General Strike. The strike had begun just an hour prior to the completion of the last performance, and most of the people in the audience had to walk home because the street cars had gone out of service.
